Anthropic files to go public
Do you know anything about the dotcom bubble? We literally haven’t had a single frontier AI company go public yet, not one. The two main frontier AI companies are just now starting the process. Before the dotcom bubble, every company under the sun was adding .com to their company name and getting ridiculous valuations, cashing out either by going public or by selling to some legacy dinosaur. Mark Cuban became rich selling a company with a useless product for a billion dollars to Yahoo. But because it was an internet company they didn’t think twice. You could slap “.com” onto your pet dog and get $100 million from Yahoo or the public markets for it. This bubble has barely even started. It’s not until your next-door neighbor tells you that he has left his job as a janitor to start an AI company and actually goes public getting millions from the endeavor that you need to get worried. And we are a long way from that.
Have you met NewBird AI(allbirds)
DOJ? a bit surprised that Blind doesnt have a sovereign partition
don’t u have a ped0file to protect? run along.
I think so too. It’s sus that they want to cash out so soon.
Investors are going to start saying "show me the fucking money" like they did in the Dotcom Bubble. it's going to shakeout a LOT of companies. I genuinely fear it's not just a AI bubble but a broader tech bubble that's been forming since 2008. There's too many multi-billion dollar companies who've never turned a profit.
It's not a broader tech bubble, it's the whole economy. What do you think is going to happen when datacenter buildout falters?
@meta what do you mean by data center buildout falters? That we over built?
Their ARR has jumped more than 5 times in the last 5 months. How is the bubble popping?
Past performance does not guarantee future results
Yeah yard but how is it popping?
Also, the numbers are a bit convoluted. For example the “profitable” status they reported is due to heavily subsidized inference and training costs from their partnership with grok data centers. Once the subsidies run out they will owe over 1B a month to a single provider.
Robotics + AI + Space is going to be a multidecade long boom. This is like the early 1950s where you have a bunch of new complementary technologies all supporting each other and creating a new economy. You are making analogies to the dot com boom and periods like it which are historically inapt.
Exactly.
Early 50s had high union density, and a postwar boom, a bigger social safety net. All eroded by now. Back to 1929 it is Mr Inapt.
I don't doubt it's true but why is it so hard for people to build a robot that can do anything correctly. Feels like we're at least 30 years away from a Robot that can make a Mcdonalds burger.
To be fair I haven't seen any moral groundstanding from sam altman's end. Seems like a typical corporate CEO who is there for shareholders and doesn't try hard to make it seem otherwise. Dario is a different story. Reminds me of Sam Bankman Fried with all the do good for the world big talk when they're all the same type of rat.
There's an interesting question about whether there is enough liquidity (or even money supply) to support giant IPOs from SpaceX plus either Anthropic or OpenAI or both.
Retail apes will throw money at it
They will get a backdoor into ETFs
They are not offering 1.7trillion worth of stock. They are going to offer less than 5% on the public market.
AI bubble will not pop, coding agents are like drugs. Orgs have got addicted to it. They'll use it in one form or another
THIS
Some idiot copied your post on LinkedIn.
Totally agree with you. Very insightful.
Apart from coding there are no real cost or productivity gains from AI.
That’s not true— friends from finance, health care mentioned they were seeing productivity gains
Barely there for coding on the net
I don’t think you know the investments that companies, especially a lot of startups are making and up ending the entire retail, legal, medical, manufacturing space I work with them on a daily basis. You probably don’t even know that doctors about 80% of them are now using tools like doximitygpt and openevidence.
