People don’t seem to realize we have it better than 99% of the world. Even if you don’t get rich quick; working in tech for a career likely means you’re setting yourself up for the rest of your life.
If I worked at MSFT for the rest of my career, I wouldn’t make as much if I worked at Google, or Meta, or Anthropic.
But you know what? I’d retire a multi-millionaire. I’d live a pretty damn good life that most people would be envious of.

This. I had the chance to travel to a third world country (developing but still) and doing so changed my entire mindset.
We have it so damn good. The persistence people have through rough fucking conditions is incredible. Riding a train every morning at 4am for 2 hours to go to a 12 hour work day to try to scrape by. Absolutely fucking brutal dude.

Very highly paid tech work in SF/SEA/NYC clears the typical white collar American experience, if it all, by just a hair. And that is mostly down to the work itself being more interesting, higher autonomy, etc. Your typical office worker might have a career ceiling of $120k but he owns a great house in a great school district 20 minutes from work. You take better vacations than him and can afford more toys, but if you want to have a family you’re doing 1hr 40mins from Pleasanton.
This is why you need to develop a minimalist lifestyle and focus on health and family. Break free from the corporate bs once you have basic financial security. Stop trying to keep up with the jones’s.

Some of you need to touch grass. Like literally, when is the last time you went outside and did some basic human living? It's not all about wealth, it's about finding a way to live comfortably and lessening your family's suffering in this shitty world. To do that yes you need some wealth, but you need a lot of other things that money can't buy too.
2015-2021 was easy mode. If you worked in FAANG during that time you must be a millionaire already. Beyond that I'm on the same boat as you. Quit my job recently and planning what's next. Corporate isn't for me anymore. 1.2 M NW.
Same here. 2.6m NW (2 person HH) and never going back to corporate. Mental and physical health is already improving. Blood tests were better than they were in my early 20s
