Feels like it’s all a show sometimes. They argue, yet continue to get rich af. It’s not like one side wins and the other loses something. Often when things “don’t” get done they blame the side for stopping it. Convenient
If the stock price of a company goes down during a CEO's tenure, how is the CEO creating value for the company? Its hard to fire them because they are friends with the board and in some cases their shares have more voting power
Welcome to capitalism. My take is, step back and don’t participate as much as possible. Don’t buy things you don’t need. Stay off of social media. Just start unplugging. That’s how I’ve fought back in my own little way, and it gives me piece of mind. Retire early if you can and work with your hands. Build actual useful stuff for yourself and your family and others
They have many ways to screw us even in your scenario.. through taxes, gov bailouts, messing with pension funds, including voltaile stocks into s&p and constantly creating tech that's cheaper than hiring people.
I wish your way would work tbh.. but unfortunately the best way to ensure you dont heavily lose the game is to keep playing as much as you can
If there's one company that needs good HR, it's Uber. That being said, everything I've heard about Uber is that HR turns a blind eye to some of the worst behavior in tech.
Take this as a learning experience and ask yourself what could I’ve done different? Should I’ve worked on the more high visible projects should I foster great relationships with my coworkers there’s a lot of things I think that you could’ve done to survive the layoffs. Take some time to reset revisit and stay positive my friend.
Terrible advice. A lot of times these decisions come top down (you're just a name with a number to VPs & directors) and nothing to do with performance or anything that's remotely in your control

I've been laid off 4 times in a row. All because company got acquired. Stinks. 4 times over 5 years. And 5 times over 6 companies. Today, I don't care about any company. They can go S my D.
What exactly was the rationale behind this layoff? How did they accumulate so much HR resource that they can layoff such a crazy high number? IMO Uber is not even one of those companies that is known for high volume hiring.
I’m at uber now and our team has tripled in the last year (was 20ish now almost 60). Hiring at uber seems to be very feast or famine so I wouldn’t be surprised if uber overhired in the past for HR
