Yeah, we will cover that in the next lecture called "how we can't always be in charge of other's feelings"

My friends who work in dead end jobs in their 50s today regret it every day. Instead of saving money they played and now they are wondering if they can ever retire.
I hit 5m and left tech a year ago. I may never go back to work because I just don't see the point. It's miserable and my portfolio out earns me now. Go enjoy life.
Congrats ex-Tubi, same with me, I'm leaving tech soon and never coming back. So many people here are just adding to their pile of money that they will never spend. I don't see the point at all. I understand most people want to help their kids (and parents etc) but how much do you really need, this has become a grind to the death. Go live a little while you're still able, there will be plenty of years ahead to lay in a bed in a nursing home eating Jell-O.
Calm down boys, just another metamate Blinder that started feeling empty and wanted some attention from random strangers on the internet, and created a self-pity post which is actually just for humble bragging.
My friend was a parter at a big time law firm- died of a heart attack at 41… while working late at home… alone. He never got to travel or get married he was always too busy working ans saving for lord knows what
Yes. Go live your life before you forget how or are unable to. I've seen too many people working right up until the point where they can't work or enjoy life. Already lost a few friends and relatives in their 60s. It's not far away, even if you're only 30 or 40, the years fly by when you're buried under some 'critical' project which will most likely be cancelled or obsolete in a few years. Ask yourself how much would sell one healthy year of your life for.
Your point is totally valid, but I also see people in their 60s who are poor. They probably wish they'd have worked a bit harder and saved more diligently when they were young.
Everything requires a sacrifice of something, and there has has to be some kind of balance.
Left meta this year at 5m nw and 2.4m tc, for 450k/yr tc (+ series A stock, who knows) for this reason. I was just going to take a few years off in HCOL instead of VVHCOL, but this position seemed like a lot of fun so went for it. You could try similar at your NW, do something more fun if you don’t think you need to accumulate more, whether that be time off or some new exciting career. No longer saving money either, just trying to break even with the salary.
With the current inflation, I’m not sure you can retire with 4M.
The withdrawal rate accounts for inflation bro.
I really hope you are right because my purchasing power is shrinking rapidly each day.
Oh you’re serious If you can’t figure out how to retire with $4 million dollars you’ll never achieve peace and happiness. Sorry
